Nothing says summer relaxation to me like sitting out on a shaded patio or balcony, enjoying the warm summer breeze while sipping a nice cold adult beverage. For an apartment dweller on a budget (like myself), creating this atmosphere meant using a little creativity and some bargain hunting skills. The end result was a space that is both cohesive and inviting.
The total cost for this project was around $140. Here’s the breakdown:
Wicker Chairs (ikea As-Is Section): $30 for pair
Paint for chairs (quart Glidden exterior paint): $10
Patio table (ikea): $20
Chair cushions & pillow (Garden Ridge clearance): $20 total
Outdoor Rug (Amazon): $25
Curtains & Polyurethane String (ikea, Home Depot): $13
Terrarium (Hurricane, dirt, moss, plant): $20
The Ikea chairs came in a natural bamboo color, which I painted over with the exterior paint to make it look a little more polished. In order to avoid drilling or causing any permanent damage, the curtains were hung using the polyurethane spool of string from Home Depot and a few nails I found around the apt. The curtains themselves, are netted, lightweight yet durable and seem to be stain resistant and can be drawn closed for additional shade/privacy. What do you think? Can you see yourself relaxing here with a cold beer? Leave your comments below!
I recently took a BYOB painting class with a few friends, but the artwork wanted to learn to paint wasn’t available for the date we were going. So I decided to take a stab at it myself. This is another project that didn’t cost me anything because I had the materials. If I were to do this from scratch though, the cost would be about $30.
