Aluminum Tape Feature Wall

Aluminum tape feature wall

Hi everyone! Before I get into this Aluminum Tape Feature Wall project, can I just say how excited I am at how well (I think) this came out?  I love wallpaper. If I had my way, every room in the house would have it in some form, shape or way.  The thing I don’t like about it though, is the permanency of it and moreover the price!  Yes, I know there are temporary wall papers, but as you know, I’m all about designing on a dime! This was definitely a cheaper alternative.  This project took me a few hours to do, but in my opinion, it was so worth the time and work!! Here’s how I did this:

Materials

Ruler (or straight edge, I used an envelope!)

Aluminum tape – 1/4″ x 72 yards – $8.24 (Amazon.com)

Leveler

Scissors

Pencil

Eraser or Wet paper towel (to correct any mistakes)

Directions

1. Begin by lightly outlining your pattern on the wall with the pencil:

-Use the leveler to ensure that your lines are straight.

-If you’re not using a ruler, be sure to mark or note the length on your straight edge so your line lengths are uniform.

-Use the wet paper towel or an eraser to correct any mistakes

2. Once you’ve outlined your pattern, you can then retrace your lines with the aluminum tape.

And that’s it! So, what do you think? Would you try this aluminum foil tape project? If so, what pattern would you use?  Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts!

That is beautiful. I can’t believe it’s just tape. How well does it stay stuck to the wall? If I want to change it what happens when you pull it off?

I like it! I’m not a fan of wallpaper, I must admit. It’s a royal pain getting off the wall when the time comes. I like interesting walls though, so this is cool!

This is really amazing! At first glace, it made the wall look as though it was etched glass! I wonder how the tape would hold up to the humidity in the bathroom! I wanted to do something in there but nothing permeate since I’m renting.

    Thanks for sharing!

Did you use the full length of the envelope for the squares?

  35. deevadesigner

Hi Abby, thank you so much for stopping by! It’s been a while since I did this project, but I believe I used the full length of the envelope for all sides of the square.

  36. Candy

Any ideas on a kids proof wall feature too. ? I love this idea with aluminium tape for office.

  37. deevadesigner

Thanks Candy! I would suggest using metallic paint and a stencil – you’ll get the pattern you want with a pop of luster. Hope this helps!

  40. Amber

    Hi!
This is so beautiful. I’m moving and trying to find affordable designs for my new place. You mentioned pregnancy, buy could you elaborate on what you mean by that? How would you remove the tape (i.e. the entire design) if you decided to change it or is it permanent?

    Thanks!

  41. deevadesigner

Hi Amber! I was referring to wallpaper, if you use traditional wallpaper to create a design on your wall, it’s labor intensive to remove it. Because this design was created using tape, the most you might have to deal with is a little bit of tacky residue which is easily removed with goof off or baby oil. The point being, it would only be in a small area vs an entire wall. Hope this response helps, thank you so much for visiting and leaving a response!

I just stumbled upon this on Pinterest today when looking for ways to accent my accent wall even further. I painted one wall of my bedroom in a dark teal (other 2 walls are a light gray). Although the walls look decent enough, I wanted to find something that gave it an extra pop. I bought a metallic gold tape (1/8″) from Hobby Lobby at lunch time today to give this a try. I’m going with a diamond design though. Wish me luck!
